It is confirmed by Google that it has added more IBM patents to its technology arsenal.Google bought 188 patent and 29 patent application related to smart phones from IBM but did not disclose how much did they paid for it.
Google has become more defensive in it's patent portfolio with the intent to fight for the dominance in the rapidly growing smartphone market.
Due to growing market, technology giant's has made a habit of accusing one another with patent lawsuit. Apple has accused HTC and SAMSUNG using Google Andriod OS for infringing on apple held patents.
Google Android Platform has faced a barrage attacks from patent trolls and the rival players in the smartphone market. Google is also facing a battle with Oracle for java related patent in android OS. May be that would be a reason why Google is strengthening their patent portfolio which will enable them for a better future for the Android Market.
